'It is easier to forgive an enemy, than forgive a friend.'
William Blake
Betrayal sips like acid,
strips the skin
to expose nerve endings of pain.
Familiar becomes alien.
Friend befriending antagonist ~
someone who hates you.
Excusing behaviour designed to hurt.
Why would they?
Agendas line up
with jealousy at the top.
You’ve supported them.
They side-step that issue with you.
Insecurities, challenges, ignorance ~
they see you as a threat,
an enemy whose kindness, caring,
is now a hazard.
Ignoring you,
they seek to find that underbelly,
that soft side, that friendliness
and strike at it.
Don’t expect assistance.
Don’t expect compassion.
Don’t expect understanding.
Don’t expect friendship to re-emerge.
Learn from this betrayal.
Even a so-called friend,
now your nemesis,
can give something back.
You’ve discovered.
You’re wiser.
You’re armed.
But you’re still betrayed.

A few sayings about Betrayal:
Beware the person who stabs you in the back,
then tells the world they're the one who's bleeding.
Avoid people who are close to people who dislike you ~
they are dangerous.
Stop wasting time on people who treat you well one day,
then act like you don't exist the next day.
A person who doesn't defend you while a person slanders you,
is your enemy too.
When people show you who they really are,
believe them. (Maya Angelou)
